Telemark has a variety of attractions, experiences, nature and culture. The landscape is always shifting.

The coast of Telemark is joys of water and boating. Beautiful coastal villages and towns.

Mid-Telemark is surrounded by gentle hills and friendly lakes, connected to the Telemark canal – the old transport route from the coast to the upper regions of the county. This particular region is well-known for commerce, culture and adventure.

Like a roof on top of Telemark is the vast and majestic Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Your trip to the mountains may start or end up in Tinn or Vinje. The Gaustatoppen mountain reaches towards the sky, with a spectacular view of the fairytale region.

Western Telemark presents much of the county’s cultural identity, and here you are met by powerful nature and a culture heritage with roots hundreds of years back in time.

The culture is shifting. Telemark is folk music in, rock in Langesund, poetry in Kragerø, traditional dance music in Seljord and blues at Notodden.

And there is the food… Local producers from the entire county have extracted the old recipies, the food is short travelled and the kitchen of Telemark offer experiences you cannot find anywhere else.

Western Telemark: The region consists of Drangedal, Nissedal, Kviteseid, Fyresdal, Seljord and Tokke municipalities. The region is better known as the “Hiking Region” of Telemark, with several exciting hiking routes for children, families or the more experienced.

The mountain region

This region consists of Tinn and Vinje municipalities. The mountain region of Telemark is well-known for vast plains of mountains, a great hiking terrain and an area of many culture traditions.

The coast line of Telemark with its hundreds of islands and archipelagos is a fascinating experience. Many have heard about Jomfruland and Kragerø but Telemark’s coast line has a lot more to offer.

The coast line between Brevik and Langesund consists of many small and bigger islands and some true treasures: narrow straits, beaches and sheltered ports. Here you will also find a wonderful cycling path with you follow the outer coast lane.

Take your bike with you on the ferry to Jomfruland and experience a quite special island with sandy beaches, pebbles and light houses. You can also take a seal safari, visit one of the many farms, go fishing or learn about mining and much, much more.

Central and Eastern Telemark

The region consists of the communes Bø, Sauherad, Notodden and Hjartdal. Here you will also find Bø Sommarland and the Heddal stave church.
