Møre og Romsdal
The Geirangerfjord is located in the southwestern part of the county of Møre og Romsdal, north in Fjord Norway, approximately 100 kilometers from the town of Ålesund.
The deep blue UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord is surrounded by majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation.
The Geirangerfjord is considered to be among the most outstanding fjord areas on the planet.
Ørnevegen (the Eagle Road) is the name given to the steepest stretch of road up the mountain side from Geiranger towards Eidsdal. The road turns through 11 hairpin bends up from the Geirangerfjord to the highest point 620 metres above sea level.
At Ørnesvingen you can take in the magnificent panorama over Geiranger, De syv søstrene and the alpine farm Knivsflå.
Trollstigen – the “Troll Ladder” is a dramatic and exciting experience. The road twists through 11 hairpin bends as it climbs up to Stigrøra (858 metres above sea level). In some places it is cut into the mountain; in others it is built on top of stone walls. An impressive bridge in natural stone carries it across the Stigfossen waterfall. At the top there is a viewpoint, restaurant and the Trollstigen Road Museum exhibiting photos, models and hand tools from its construction. His Majesty King Haakon VII opened the road in the summer of 1936. The road is closed in the winter and normally opens in late May or early June.
Molde – the town of jazz and roses
The fjordtown of jazz, football and roses. In addition to its 25.000 inhabitants, Molde can offer a fantastic mountain panorama view, the Romsdal Museum, the Kings Birch, football in the top league of Norway and the annual jazz festival with an atmosphere you just have to live to understand.
Kristiansund is located in the Nordmøre area and is surrounded by islands, fjords and mountains. Where the land meets the ocean lies Kristiansund, a modern town with a busy street life, old cultural monuments and a sea-faring history.
The Art Nouveau town of Ålesund could be taken right out of a fairy tale. If you look up as you explore the town, you will discover an abundance of imaginative ornamentation on the fronts of the buildings. Walk up the 418 steps to the top of Mount Aksla and you will be rewarded by unforgettable panoramic views!
